Jan. 16, 2012 — Gastric banding doesn’t work as well as bypass surgery, according to a new study in the journal .

More than 200,000 weight loss surgeries are performed annually in the U.S. and more people are choosing banding procedures over gastric bypasses.

Can’t stand the cold? Blame the summer.

If youre getting sick of the cold weather, you can blame the hot summer that just passed. New research suggests that particularly hot summers cause really cold winters.

According to researchers from the Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER), the University of Massachusetts, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the harsh winters that are currently evoked in the Northern Hemisphere could be caused by increasing temperatures and melting ice in the Arctic regions creates more snowfall and cold weather in the the later fall months at lower latitudes.

The team found that the strongest cooling trends in the winter were located with in the United States, southern Canada, and most of northern Eurasia.

Dental School Clerk, Firefighter Featured

By day, hes an inventory control clerk at the School of Dentistry who is responsible for keeping track of hundreds of items for all dental students and faculty.

What scares Tiger Mom Amy Chua? We do!

She’s ba-aaaaaaaaaaack!

Tiger Mom, that is.

Amy Chua returned to TODAY to talk about the reaction to her momoir, “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother,” in which she proclaimed her strict parenting philosophy to be superior to traditional American parenting. In case you’ve forgotten, some of her golden rules for her two daughtersincluded: mandatory piano and violin (enforced with hours of daily practice, with mom standing over and criticizing any mistakes); gradeslower than A are not allowed; no sleepovers, playdates or extracurriculars other than piano or violin.

And if her daughters dared step out of line, Chuawould berate them withwords likelazy, pathetic and garbage.
